Since its foundation in 2013, CAMS Music Trust, with its charitable mission of providing musical opportunities for children and adults in Cambridgeshire, has gone from strength to strength. We work with schools (both in and out of school hours) and with adults and families in a variety of community settings.
Orchestras - we currently run two orchestras - the Mawson Road Community Orchestra and the St. Matthew’s School Orchestra - a primary school children’s orchestra.
Choirs - the CMT Community Choir, which made its debut at Cambridge United FC in December 2013, now runs on two evenings per week, runs in conjunction with the Festival Jazz Choir run by Andi Hopgood.
Instrumental and Vocal Workshops - a series of workshops for singers and players of a variety of instruments, ages and standards – in a variety of styles
Jazz – together with our partners The Cambridge Jazz Festival – we are building a programme of educational opportunities for both adults and younger jazz enthusiasts. Currently we work with Malcom Talbot’s Big Brass, run a community Big Band and are running our very first series of Jazz workshops.
Drumming – we run a regular (fortnightly) Brazilian Drumming Workshop and a number of one-off workshops.
General Musicianship – aware of the importance of supporting young instrumentalists and vocalists to secure a firm footing in the fundamentals of music, we run Music Club - fun-packed sessions of musical activity that include Theory and General Musicianship training (for beginners and up to “Get your Grade 5 Theory" classes).
